When you’re looking for a way to enjoy all the best parts of tent camping without the hassle or discomfort of a tent, then pop-up campers are probably your next best option. They provide the basic amenities you’ll want from an RV without getting in the way of enjoying the great outdoors. When you’re ready to start looking through the camping trailers we have available, then stop by Mericle RV, near Denver and Aurora, Colorado.

What is a Pop-Up Camper?

Let’s start with the basics. A pop-up camper is technically a type of RV, although it’s more in line with a trailer. As their name implies, they’re designed to fold down when you’re in transit, at least to some extent. The degree to which it folds down can vary from model to model. Some pop-up campers have soft walls, meaning the sides are made of a durable, fabric material, thick enough to provide you protection from the elements, but malleable enough to fold down completely when it’s time to pack up and move out.

There are also hard side pop-up campers. These provide sturdier protection and there’s less hassle with setup and teardown, although they don’t fold down the way that soft sided tent campers do. There are still parts of the rig that “pop up,” but it’s a little more limited. Then again, this kind of rig will provide more security and protection, so you’ll want to figure out where your priorities lie before making an investment.

Simplicity

So what’s the point of getting a pop-up camper? Firstly, let’s acknowledge that a pop-up camper isn’t for everyone. There’s a limited number of amenities and sleeping arrangements, so groups of more than two, maybe three, will probably want to look somewhere else. And because there aren’t as many features, they’re not ideal for kids.

However, they are ideal for groups or solo travelers that want something simple and streamlined. Fewer moving parts means less maintenance and a shorter amount of time spent on setup. Many travelers still want to spend most of their time in the great outdoors, maybe hiking or swimming or anything else you might enjoy outside your tent trailer. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have a comfortable place to sleep and prepare meals. You’ll also get more storage space this way than you would with a tent and your car.
